Different Centre Consoles

Looking at used Avensis's (Avensii?) on the Toyota used car stock list and could do with a bit of help from the experts here  ;)

Looking at 2006 and 2007 2.2D models mainly and I am seeing two different styles of centre console

One has some kind of dashtop glove box type affair and the other has a sunken display in the same area.

What is the difference and what is that sunken display showing - and where, if anywhere is that same information being shown in the models without that display in the middle?

Cheers

I may be able to help here. I have just got a '58 reg 2.0 D4D with the cover thing in the dash. This covers up a little cubby hole for sunglasses and the like. It's just storage. The sunken area you see on earlier modles has an LCD display in it that shows all the trip computer readouts such as MPG, average speed, range etc. With later cars that have the cubby hole, this display is in the instrument display on the right under the tacho dial so you still get the info.

I'm not sure when the design changed, about '07 reg I think. Also, if you have the right spec (TR upwards?) you get the colour screen in the centre console that does radio and sat-nav.

Thanks for that :D

I was concerned that the info in the cubby hole display was moved onto the radio and I would loose it if I changed the radio to another unit.

Hi

I've got a 58 plate Avensis 1.8 that has the cubby hole. This was introduced in '06 when the Avensis facelift was launched. On the models with satellite navigation this is where the display sits. There are several other minor changes in the facelift model: leds in the wing mirrors, slight difference in the headlight design, slight difference in the tail light design, the big display from the instruments panel was moved to the speedometer while the ODO and trips display was moved to the tachometer.

Personally I enjoyed more the display on top of the dash instead of the cubby hole with its rattling cover.
