Hello

I own a 2009 toyota yaris with stock tyres (185/60R15) with stock iron rims

I want to fit 16'' rims with 195/50R16 tyres and i dont want to increase my consumption.

will 16'' rims with 195/50R16 tyres increase my consumption???

Thanks

I think having iron rims will really slow you down due to the extra weight!

the stock rims are from iron, right??? or steel. i dont know

I've got 16" alloys and 195/50-16 tyres on my 2008 SR. They were standard fit and Toyota didn't publish any different fuel consumption figures on that model - so you shouldn't really notice any difference.

The wheels will be lighter (being alloy instead of steel). The tyres will be a bit heavier being larger.

Overall, theer will be little difference and even if there was a few kg difference - its far less than the weight of a few gallons of fuel or an extra passenger.

Unless you're the sort of person who only fills his fuel tank half full, because the extra weight of a full tank impacts his fuel consumption, then there's nothing to worry about regarding weight.

A bigger concern if you're that worried is the make of tyre you but. They can impact your fuel consumption by 10%.

The wider 195/50 tyre will inevitably have a higher rolling resistance because its wider, but the biggest factor is the make of the tyres you buy.

Tyres of the same size vary significantly in rolling resistance - its a balance of getting good grip which needs soft rubber compound vs long life and low rolling resistance which needs hard rubber.

If you're so bothered about fuel consumption, make sure you buy a tyre that's specifically designed for low rolling resistance and economy...

Speedometer reading with the new tyre size is 0.3% too fast. When your speedo reads 60mph you are actually travelling 59.8mph

With a lower profile they could well be lighter

Only from 185 to 195... Revolutions per mile go from 850.0 to 852.0.

if you add 10KG in the car is not the same if you add 10KG in your wheels.

the wheels are in the unsprung weight so its not the same.

what you are saying is that if an extra passenger is in the car (75KG) its the same if my wheels have 75KG extra weight? i dont believe so

The only difference in unsprung vs sprung weight, is that unsprung weight affects the handling more - both have the same effect for fuel consumption - as its the total weight of the car that the engine has to force through the air, regardless of whereabouts in the car the weight is....
