1.8 Fuel Economy - 04 Plate

Just wondering if anyone knows what would cause this.

I have always been able to acheive an average mpg of between 42 - 48, depending on my type of driving, until about last November/December. I then struggled to get 42mpg on a long run, and around town it was about 37.

I had the car serviced in January, though that didn't help and it was MOT'd last month and passed with no problems (all emissions looked to be well within limits.)

After filling the car up again last week, the economy has returned to normal.

Although I have been going by the cars mpg display, I'm sure this is not at fault as on four seperate 460 mile journeys, starting with a full tank, I have had to refuel during the journey to make it back. Normally I can make it back no problem and have fuel to spare. I don't see that it should be the cold weather aswell, as during the previous winter I didn't have this problem.

Fuel, in general, has always been from the local supermarket except when back visiting family, though even then using a Shell station I received no greater economy.

As I say, it has now returned to normal but would just be interested to hear if anyone can offer an explanation for this.

Thanks,

Dougie.
