Doesn't Want To Do Anything!

Got a 55-reg Avensis t3-x 1.8 petrol (29,000 miles).

On getting into car this morning I first noticed that the indicators didn't flash when unlocking it.

On turning the key in the ignition I only get a sparking/buzzing noise from in front of the glove box/centre panel area- the engine makes no attempt to turn over. All the dashboard lights illuminate but when key is allowed to settle back in normal driving position, they start to flash rapidly.

When getting out of car and locking it, only the initial lock engages with the second 'dead-lock' not responding.

I'm not too technically/mechanically gifted so am looking for pointers where to start (presumably the Battery or fuses) but with such a list of faults it don't know where is best.
