2002 Avensis With New Short Block-oil Consumption

Hello all,

Just a quick question. Just had a new short block fitted to my 2002 1.6l Avensis. Job done at just under 7 years (great job Toyota  )

Done 3700 km (around 2300 miles). Oil stick down around 6mm (just over 3/4 of new dipstick).

For the first 1000 km did not go over 120 km/h and 3000 rpm.

Now revving up to 4000 rpm and 150 km/h on motorway. Mostly motorway use.

For how long should I consider oil consumption down to bedding in of components and before I start getting worried!

g/morning

basing on the practice the following must be considered:

- 5000 kms (after overhauling) ---- first bedding oil change;

- 10000 kms (ditto) ------ second bedding oil change.

after 10k -- you can use normal oil recommended by Toyota.

the oil consumption is to be in limits by 10k kms

cheers/Igor

Hi Igor,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I think they used 5/40 synthetic.

If I change it at 7500 km do you think it would help in bedding-in?

I have conflicting info over this.

The one side says keep it in to promote bedding in

The other side says change the oil to get rid of the metallic particles which cause wear to bearings etc.

Confusing

Usually I leave the factory oil up to 15000km and then change every 7500 with semi-synth.

Had mine done nearly 6000 miles ago, has used maybe 3mm on the dipstick, definately no more.

Keep an eye on the consumption and if your not happy, take it back to Mr T and see what they have to say. Unfortunately, I think their criteria will still be 1 litre in 1000 miles :(
