hi there i'm looking to buy a diagnostic reader for a 2000 1.8 vvti Toyota celica - not sure what type or whats compatible to my car - does anyone know if a '00 celica is OBDII or EOBD or is there a K3 i'm a bit confused:)

plus where do i connect it - i.e where is the location?

any help or words of wisdom appreciated - thanking you:)

Not sure which 1 you need, but you connect it under the steering wheel just above where your accelerator will be.

I bought a Memoscan U381 diagnostic reader of eBay for £40, and that reads both OBDII and EOBDII. Really easy to use and can recommend it. Bought mine from a UK seller but lokking now they all appear to be from China.

Don't forget OBD code readers only read generic engine emission codes. They don't read manufacturer specific codes very well and they don't read the rest of the car, ABS, Airbags etc.

No need for a reader. Open bonnet, top right corner there is plug with cap on saying Diagnostics. Open it up. Turn car to On (Before ignition). Put a plain wire between the pins E1 and TE1 (labelled on the cap). Now go in the car and the engine light will be flashing in morse code. If it is a constant flashing with no pauses then you have no error codes. If you get morse code flashes, it is reading out the numbers of the error codes for you. For example if it was flashing 5 times then a pause, then 4 times then a pause, then a big pause, and then repeats, you have error code 54. If there are more than 1 error code it will have the long pause then flash the next code, and continue until all codes are done, then repeat.

You can start the engine up for more codes also. Here is every Celica 1994-2000 fault code:

Basic codes by flashing "Check Engine-light" ("MIL") Basic codes by flashing "Check Engine-light" ( "MIL")

Had the same problem, couldnt get the reader to communicate, it won't run at 9600 baud, needs to be 38400, some software is not switchable and defaults to 9600.
