Hi everyone,

I'm looking to recharge the airconditioning on my 1998 Avensis. According to my recharge can there should be a black or blue dust cap which when unscrewed reveals the low pressure port. Please could someone tell me where this is as I can't seem to find it!

Thanks for your help.

My advice would be to forget the recharge can and get it done properly.

Hi there, this is quite a complicated procedure normally carried out by a specialist, the system has to be degassed and an exact amount by weight put back in ... have you done this type of work before?

It is also illegal to let your old gas vent to atmosphere, but that's an issue between you the planet and the law.

Pete.

morning STU

I would not recomend you any personal trials to recharge an A/C system for the following reasons:

- the special hoses spider must be applied to have exists gas pumped out in special recovery cylinder (!!!!);

- an inert gas must be filled in to push an air from the system;

- after that the system must again be degased using the same spider;

- during degasing -- the system remains as is under vacuum during specified time and the mechanic is focused on the vacuum gauge to evaluate whether or not the system is leaks proof;

- only after that an exact rate of R134a is to be filled in the system and the same spider equipped with pressure gauge - controls a gas pressure in the system.

- after that the system must be plugged and all possible leaks are checked by leaks detector.

as you see - there are many steps that can not be done by you/anyoone of us.

my friendly advice is to leave this job for MrT -- you will save : nervous; money; time.

Good luck/Igor

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your help. Just to clarify I'm just looking to top up the aircon with this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...tegoryId_165632

rather than draining the system and starting again. Or are you saying even just topping it up with this product is dangerous? If it's safe please could you point me in the direction of the port?

Thanks,

Stu

hello

even if you will do it, then no one can give a guaranty of leakproof !! and after be ready that you will claim to A/C performance especially in summer time.

cheers/Igor

Hi mate we are not here to tell you what to do but i would let Halfords sort it out, for £50.00 ..... not a bad deal!

Regards Pete.

The low pressure port on your model is to the left of the Battery level with its base. The small stainless steel pipe with the grey plastic cover marked with the letter L.
