Squealing Power Steering Belt

hello all,

Does anybody know how to tighten the power steering belt on a 2000 d4d avensis.Major squealing going on and a lack of power

when on full lock.Ihave tried tightening the centre bolt (14mm),but nothings happening.Any ideas??

On mine (petrol 1.8) the belt has an automatic tensioner. If the diesel is the same then I'd guess that the "spring effect" has gone therefore leaving the belt partially slack. Try twisting the belt at it's longest length. If you can twist it easily thru more than 90 degrees then the tention isn't right.

If i remember right i think you slacken the center bolt on the tensioner pulley then turn the adjuster bolt at the front of that pulley clockwise then retighten the center bolt
