Warranty Question

I'm hoping someone can categorically answer this question before I get in touch with my dealer!

If Toyota change a part for free whilst the car is under its 3 year warranty, does that part come with a 12 month warranty, or does the warranty on the part expire the same time as the warranty on the car?

For example, part changed under warranty when car is 2 years 10 months old. If that part fails in 8 months time (car is out of warranty period but the part is under a year old), what's Toyota policy on the part? I know different manufacturers have different rules! Renault say that the warranty on the car is over after 3 years, even if they'd just changed a part the day before and it fails. I'd be grateful if anyone knows what Toyota policy is.

I would have thought the new part would have a new warranty ..

If you had it fitted at 5 years (when the std warranty has long ran out) and it broke later, you'd expect the new part to have a 12 month warranty.

Yeah that's obvious. But my question is if Toyota replace a part 'for free' under warranty - is the 'free' part under warranty for 12 months, even if the car's 3 year warranty expires in this time?

So you think if Toyota replace a part (under warranty) 1 day before the warranty expires the part is covered for less than 24 hours? I think any part no matter when it is replaced is covered for 12 months.
