Avensis 30,000 Mile Service

I have recently purchased a 2002 Avensis Vermont which has just reached the ripe old mileage of 30,000 miles.

As money is very tight (unemployed) I'm curious as to what is exactly done to the vehicle in a 30,000 mile service and if any special tools are required?

I'd love to get the service done by Toyota but need to save as much money as I can; therefore I'd like to do it myself.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

did you buy the car from the dealership cos if you do your own service you will void any warranty you got also when you sell

it you wont have a full history,it sounds like a decent motor 30,000 miles is less than half the usual mileage for a car of that age

if money is tight go for a basic service good luck mate.

Often dealers will run discounted schemes for car older than 3 years!!

Our local dealer will give 10% for 3 years old----- 20% for 4 years old -------30% for 5 years old

Its worth asking at your local dealerships

Thank you gentlemen for some really useful help.

The maintenance chart is very useful so thank you very much for this.

I bought the car from a private seller. It looks like new and is the first car I've had like this; by that I mean one with climate control (nice) and so much room. She drives like a dream; well with only 30,000 miles on a car 7.5 years old... :)

I am erring on the idea of going for broke (and I mean broke in more ways than one being unemployed) and getting the car serviced by my local Toyota dealer as the car has a full service history.

My dealer quoted me £160 including parts, is that good?

£160 sounds about right, I would have thought. But beware off any additional parts (other than those they included in the quote) - Wiper Blades for example, Toyota spares can be a bit pricey. I'd tell them they MUST contact you first before proceeding with any additional work.

hello

before arriving for service - you'd ask to get the list of works (parts) they intend to do in order to evaluateand compare the cost

normally I always type a works list and have it coordinated with CR&CS Manager before each service (when the garranty period is expired), as i ve no guarantee.

in case your car is still under warranty -- then you'll be insisted to do otherwise ........ you've caught me.

all other spares, such us Wiper Blades (as previous authoro said) etc must only be offered to you gently and your decision will be final.

cheers/Igor

Richard,

This is what I was charged 2 weeks ago at a Toyota dealer....

30,000 intermediate service 23.98

Engine oil 29.40

Enviromental charges 4.50

Washer fluid 2.59

Oil filter 7.83

Air filter 15.11

Gskt drain plug 0.88

Net 84.29

VAT 12.64

Total £96.93

So maybe £160.00 is a bit steep! by about £60.00..

I have to trade a car in yet where the dealer looks at the service history, personally i wouldnt go near a dealer for servicing. My local independent has quoted £15 inc vat for an oil and filter change (inc stamping the book) thats with me providing the parts. Toyota dealer beside me is charging £23 for genuine toyota oil and filter, bargain. I just keep the receipts with the owners manual.

Your local dealer seems to be charging £160 for the same thing im getting for £38 all in. Its only a service, not as if its an engine rebuild or anything. Try local independents.
