Air Con Problems

This is more out of curiosity more than any thing else but has any body else had problems with the air con on their Avensis.

I've got a 54 plate 2ltr Tspirit and this is just the latest in a long list of problems, it now appears that the air con condenser has given up the ghost,

it's died, decided to expire, result new condenser at a cost of over £300 to replace, this is on a 4 1/2 year old car with 40000 miles on the clock.

What has prompted me to ask is the garage I took it to the mechanic told me he'd only just replaced one a week earlier on another Avensis on an 04

plate and over the past 6 months has done another 4 cars all with the same problem.

Think the next car will be a BMW.

The condenser is always in a vulnerable place for damage (from stones etc.) as it is in front of the radiator. This is not peculiar to the Avensis. What exactly was wrong with yours? Leak due to damage or leak due to corrosion? I would suspect at the age of your car it would be something like stone damage rather than corrosion.

The condense is starting to weep from the bottom part and its on the inside, the mechanic who showed me were it was has suggested that it's the start of corrosion.

This is a month after having to have the radiator replaced for the exact same reason, that had started to corrode about an inch from the top

were the core joins the casing.

With every thing else that has gone wrong with this car I have just had it with Toyota's, I've had them for nearly thirty years, 2 Celicas, Corolla, 2 Carina's,

last one was a Carina 2Ltr CDX, had that for 8 years and apart from tyres and brakes the only thing I replaced was a Battery after the car got to 10 years old.

You name it, it's gone wrong.

Doesn't sound like a good advert for Toyota, hope you have a better experience with the BMW when you get it.
