2004 Avensis Problem

ive just recently bought a 04 plate avensis 2.0 diesel and the engine warning light has just come on, on the dashboard, there is no power until i reach above 2000 rpm and there is quite a bit of black smoke when accelerating.

Has anyone got any idea as to what it might be?

does it start hard ?

Could be the EGR valve. 2000-3200rpm is where the turbo starts to reach it's full RPM.

no it starts normally just the problems above
