Please please can someone help :0(

Firstly sorry for the mess concerning grammar just about to come from this post i am posting on behalf of my husband and am so upset and stressed out.

We have an 2003 toyota avensis verso which we have had since birth my hubby is a vet so we need the car for him to do his job. Previously we have always had company cars so never been responsible for probs with cars but were convinced due to tax reasons into buying and using our own. Anyway some 100,000 miles later the car has been great but has steadily been having things go wrong with it namely recently the knocking and my husband and his friend who is very experinced with cars between the two of them decided it needed the cv joints replaced and ball thingys.

The car was working fine but as its MOT was due end of June they decided 2 weekends ago they would replace the above things anyway after working all day sat and sunday they could not seperate the cv joints from the drive shaft on one side so the car had to be left some 50 miles away on jacks and we had to borrow a friends car.

After much searching motor factors thinking to simply replace the driveshaft for a new or reconditioned one with cv joints already attached we drew a blank nowhere has any available and we were told the only option was to send our driveshaft away to be reconditioned. I phoned today to see if it was back and the motor factor informed us the company who do this had to send it back that they could not recondition it as they could not get the joint off the drive shaft.

The plan had been to take the reconditioned driveshaft up to our friends get it fitted and get the car back home obviously this is not going to be the case.

Although this might not be a big deal to others its absoutely traumatising me i'm in floods of tears stressed out as to what to do now we have been told in order to get a brand new drive shaft you can only get them from toyota and it'll be £600 not including any labour.

I just wish he had gotten rid of this car last year when things had started to go wrong and now its sitting in miles away off the road with no clear way of sorting this nightmare out..

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Try following link www.autospares-group.co.uk = Sutton Auto Factors based in nottingham. They supply nipparts, as the name suggests specialists in Japanese car parts. Can supply complete re-manufactured half-shafts with a 12 month guarantee.

See PM.

Regards, Beagh.

Thanks so much for your replies as of yet still not resolution to this i will now go off and look at the pm thanks so much..

My husband bought a gator ( not sure what that is ) in order to reseal the old cv joint onto the driveshaft to bring the car home at the weekend but the driveshaft was not back from the company so the cars still in perth at the moment we are hoping to get back up there on weds to bring it back.

With the MOT due to happen in 2 weeks times this is massively worrying.

Also The cv joints we ordered and the ball joints which were meant to fit the car are completely wrong i have no idea how we keep being sent wrong parts when they use the car number plate to sourse them.

Right am off to investigate the pm thanks again so much

Hi the www.autospares-group.co.uk i had already contacted their mail order line previously they did a search with the car plate and quoted me a price but when they tried to get the part they could not get it there were none available at all.

They recommended sending it away to be reconditioned but like i said when we had it sent away to be reconditioned they could not do it as they say the cv joints stuck onto the driveshaft.

  • 3 weeks later...

So how is it?It's two weeks now since you last posted. I hope you already resolved your problem. Anyway, I've read that you have been experiencing problems with ordering parts. I have here an on-line shop that my friend usually subscribe to for her toyota car parts needs, so far, she has not experience any prob. Try checking that out if you encounter any problem again(i hope not anymore). But I advise that you subscribe to local dealers so it is easier for you to show them what you need or perhaps, ask the real tech what should you really purchase or if it's possible, have them purchase it for you. That'll cost you more but it'll save your time and effort and possible extra expenses to order and re-order and still get the wrong parts. I am also glad that you inquired here for your husband, such a sweet thing to do. :)
