Dab In A Yaris?

I love 6 music and would love to listen to it on the go. I've got a 2009 TR and I presume the radio in it is the same for the earlier Mark 2 models. When I was buying it I asked about how much it would cost to get DAB fitted and was quoted either around £300 or around £500. I can't remember which cause whatever it was my jaw hit the floor and I zoned out for a bit.

Can anyone think of a way I can do this cheaper!

The way it was described as a "DAB module" suggested to me that it was something that just slotted in the back of the head unit somewhere. I replaced the head unit in my old T2 so I know can be a pain to remove the dashboard etc, but it wasn't 300 quid's worth of pain.

I know I can get a portable DAB and plug it into the AUX there's downsides to that that I 'd rather avoid e.g. having to charge it up, reliable reception, not having to hide it when I leave the car, steering wheel controls etc.

In all other ways I'm happy with the current stereo so an alternative head unit would be down the bottom of the options list.

I don't begrudge Mr T his profits and am happy to support my local franchise but the price quoted was seriously beyond a joke!

So, the short story is, how can I get hold of a Toyota Yaris DAB module and how can I fit it?

Does anyone have any clues? Or is there a more appropriate forum for this question?

Cheers,

Mick

Hi Mick,

£300 is about the usual charge for a DAB digital radio tuner in a car.

Mercedes Benz quote £313 for their DAB tuner and that is only available with their £1076 optional audio package

That eBay page is a little misleading. :E I got overly excited then thinking I could get the same touch screen system in my yaris as you find on the rav4 t180, with the DVD sat nav and MP3 CDs back there too.

But alas, it's just a little box which fits behind. I've been waiting DAB radio so I can listen to Adam and Joe in mah car... problem is I don't think this will fit my yaris now as I've had the integrated bluetooth fitted.

Hmmm...

sould be interested to see how much parts king can get it for though.. :E

Thanks for the replies you 3  . Looks like the unit is quite pricey even buying from eBay then, and the fitting does look like a fair bit of work. Looks like I'll need to save my pennies if I want a built-in one. That's a good price for the Pure at Misco so I might need to try one of those while I save up (It may take some time).

Thanks again.

Later,

Mick

Will do Nerfie. Have just noticed that the Pure highway on Misco is a refurbed box so that might explain the price.

Also, I forgot to say....

STEVEN!!!!!!! ;)

 Oh man I'm way too old to find that funny!

Anyway, back on topic I've asked my local Mr T for a quote for the built-in unit. I've got a cunning plan for raising the cash.

Cheers,

Mick

You'll never be too old mate, never.

I've been a fan of A&J since their 4Later (when TV was good) Days. I still watch cartoons and take pleasure in acting like a child in a supermarket, skating around on a trolly making motorbike noises.

ubik being old!

:D
