Noisy Starter Motor

Hi my yaris 2000 1.0 gs makes a slighty odd noise when starting and i think its not working as well as it should as it is gradually taking longer to start the car but the engine has just been serviced and sweet. Would i be better getting it reconditioned or replaced or could i repair it my self (quite good with the spanners i think lol) thanks
