What engine oil do you use?

Your showing your ignorance again, it’s lubricated my old Corolla for most of it’s 170,000 miles, and previously for 100,000 miles in a Ford Sierra, and 70,000 in a Mini, without any engine bearing failures, so it certainly isn’t ‘cack’. Back then I worked for Britains major plain bearing manufacturer and they used Duckhams 20-50 in all their test car engines, so they obviously held it in some esteem.
  4. So I think I solved this problem and just wanted to pass on the information to anyone finding this thread in the future. The boot has remained dry for a while now despite heavy rain and trips to the car wash. For me the problem was the boot vents, the one in the right side in particular. Toyota quoted me £65 per vent for two new vents so I decided to just seal around the vents with some liquid gasket stuff (Sikaflex) from the inside instead before purchasing new vents with new seals. This has seemed to do the trick. I accessed the vents from the inside by removing some trim in the trunk and pulling up the carpet to allow access around the vents. Before doing the vents I also replaced all gaskets around the rear lights. They didn't really look like they needed replacing despite the car being a 2009 so it wouldn't be the first place I would look if I were you. This video here was helpful in locating the vents and showing what trim you need to remove to access the vents. You don't have to remove all of the side panels, you can simply pull the carpet a bit up. If you're struggling with water ingression I would advise your plan of attack to go like this: Check the two boot vents Check tail light gaskets Check the weather seal around the boot Check hinges for gas struts (holding up the bootlid)

What engine oil do you use?

Yes and it is still as cack as it was in 1975, it only sold because of good marketing and it's lovely colour green 👍

You’re actually wrong about that too, Duckhams was sponsoring motor racing in the 1990s and I was still buying it then. Duckhams was bought by BP, not by Castrol as I said above, although Castrol is also owned by BP. Apparently, in the early 2000s BP put Duckhams on hold, presumably to protect it’s Castrol products. Duckhams is now reinventing itself and they have a website but it doesn’t appear to be working as it’s not accepting my registration or car details. They’re selling 20-50 again, calling it Duckhams Classic Q 20w-50, G00GLE indicates both eBay and Amazon are selling it. I will be buying some when needed for my old Corolla.

    Hybrid car insurance refusals

We have our Yaris insured with LV, and am about to insure our Rav4 with LV, after moving from Saga. saving £180. There's no loyalty bonus with insurance companies, so I rarely stay with the same company for more than a year or two. One thing I learnt a long time ago, is to not ask for automatic insurance renewal.
  10. Your MOT person would do that at the annual test

What engine oil do you use?

Castrol GTX increased the power of petrol engines by at least 20% back in 1975 ,so I was told by a spotty oik in Halfords. This only worked while wearing platform sole shoes though.

  14. I haven't had chance to check my BZ4X yet, but I do wonder if the Smart Connect units work differently. Much like how you don't have to download updates to Google maps on your phone before leaving the house. Toyota Smart Connect I wonder if the unit has a 'base' map and then updates are automatically downloaded in the background negating the need for a full map refresh. Before Tomtom (Teleatlas) and Nokia trading as Here (Navteq) took over the main GPS map suppliers it used to be possible to see what had been added to map data, but they don't seem to publish any lists (that I've been able to find). I think even Google maps uses data from Nokia If you don't have a Smart Connect unit then I would expect the updates to be OTA or downloaded from the website as before. The only way to find out if the map is up to date would be if you know of road changes within the last 6 months to see if it's present on the Smart connect unit (I don't know of any around me).

You’re just showing you ignorance of bearing wear in low revving engines!

    Gen 4 Average MPG Reset?

Just wondering if the car somehow knows when it’s filled up with fuel and then resets the meter?

    2017 Prius Tyres

I’ve currently got Yokohama, I think they are Blue Earth, tyres on my gen 4 They have much more tread on them than I first thought so won’t be changing just yet Reckon I’ll get the Goodyear EG’s when I need to change them as I live on the south coast and we don’t get much bad weather so probably the Michelin CC’s would not be necessary
  20. Whoops, sorry, wrong one. User manual Toyota Yaris (2020) (English - 572 pages) Page 310 0nwards
  21. I'm getting that as well on a new MY24 corolla. Map says it is 2023-2024 Ver.2 Another screen says map data 12-23-45 (2023-03-5)

What engine oil do you use?

I work on the principle that most of the damage to crankshaft bearings etc, is done on start up, so better to use a thicker oil as it will have less tendency to drain away, so I stick to the original recommended oil, it’s done almost 170,000 so I can’t be doing too much wrong.
  23. Lee recently said: I know nothing about the bZ4X specifically, but the latest map update would be 2024 v1 (spring); the date on yours corresponds to 2023 v1 (spring) - so, currently, two versions out of date (compared with what is available to other Toyota owners). Lee says: "Update is currently via Dealer only" so it really is a question of going back to the dealer - he needs to find out ...

    Confusing Lights

Hi Dan,It seems like Toyota opted for a unique design feature with your Corolla's front parking lights. While it may seem like the diagonally arranged LEDs serve a functional purpose, they might actually be just for aesthetic appeal. Car manufacturers often incorporate distinctive styling elements to set their models apart, even if they don't serve a practical function.Hope this helps.
