    HEV or PHEV

Great points Mike. I'm mostly comparing to premium German brands with a couple of exceptions. Definitely not a big factor in a decision to acquire. But enough to make me want to point it out as a factor. Truth is there's no other PHEV remotely close to the R4P. Sure, some cars pip the R4P in some aspects but what matters is the drive train and after that a bunch of other things ahead of cabin noise.

Oooh maybe I should do that next time just to avoid the ballache of the photo! Well, that's assuming I can find a post office - They've closed down so many I'm not even sure where the main ones that do things like that are now!

Good point Ernie. I'm mostly driving on the M6 and M5. And M6 north of Lancaster.
  8. What size rims does the car have? 40psi is (one of) the pressures rated for the 15" rims according to my manual. I run mine at 38/36 as even I found 40 made it a bit too skittish! It does seem like Mazda haven't sold many of those though if their mechanics are so oblivious to the servicing needs! I do wonder which Mazda 2 is easier to work on... do Mazda put in little hatches to access things like oil filters or do they have to take the whole undertray off like a lot of the german cars? Pfft, that's nothing - Mine were at 60psi when I picked it up! And that was on the 17" rims, which were only rated for half that! You're not wrong - It makes checking it after a service a real PITA as it's practically invisible on the dipstick when it's new! And it drips off really easily so you have to be a lot more careful to avoid splattering drops of it when checking it! Even when it's been cooked a bit it's still very light compared to what I'm used to (Never had that problem with diesel - Just driving it home made it black as midnight )

There's improved sound proofing on the PHEV according to some posters. So whilst aero the same the cabin wind noise should be different. There are better tyres than the OEM for grip, road noise, and wet and winter conditions. I plan to swap to CC2s.

Love the car. Wind and road noise, not so much. Maybe there's something wrong with mine. Will have a comparator early September when I refresh to the gr sport version.

Absolutely not sure about it at all. In fact it seems it is not. 🙂

    Highway weird noise

Must just be the tread block pattern then - Summer tyres have a continuous band of rubber, but a lot of winter tyres have lots of discreet blocks which can create a droning sound if they haven't been spaced out properly (Which only the premiums brands usually bother to do!) Thanks for posting back to let us know how you got on!
  14. Those links are for the Mazda 2, Mazda’s own car with the SkyActiv engines. The Mazda 2 Hybrid is a Toyota Yaris sporting Mazda badges. These are the tyre pressures for the Hybrid from both the owners manual and door plate.

    Late MK1 or Early MK2??

I'd vote for Mk2 just because it's less leaky They're also styled to appeal more to the young'uns apparently (Although by now those targeted young'uns will be in their late thirties ) A Yaris might be worth looking at too - Mk1s will be very cheap now but rust is an issue; The Mk2s can also be had fairly cheap (Just get a 1.0 or 1.3 (Or better yet 1.4D4D if it's to be used in a non-ULEZy country) and avoid the 1.33 and it'll be fine!) and they are a lot more practical if she's going to drive her friends around. They also have much nicer to use clutches.

    Hilux availability

Hi P, a new model coming this is a strong possibility. Car manufacturers often remove pricing and limit availability of outgoing models before releasing a new version. It creates a interest for the new car and clears out existing stock. There could be issues affecting Hilux production, like parts shortages due to global supply chain problems. This could limit the number of vehicles available and make it difficult to set a fixed price. Perhaps Hilux demand is unexpectedly high, leading to limited stock. Toyota might have removed pricing temporarily while they manage the situation.Whatever the reason I have always liked the Hilux but it not practical for us.
  18. Thanks for the interesting video. This is from the owners manual which Mazda dealer admitted was correct.

Exhaust to loud 2013 1.6 petrol

Hi Henry, a noisy exhaust on a car you just bought 3 weeks ago is concerning. There are a couple of ways to approach this depending on your comfort level and the car's warranty. If the car is under warranty, take it back, exhaust issues are usually covered, and a mechanic will diagnose and fix the problem for free. Take the car back to the dealership where you purchased it and explain the issue. If you brought the car privately then try to listen for the type of noise as it can point to the problem. A rattling sound might indicate a loose heat shield or bracket. A hissing or blowing sound could be an exhaust leak at a connection point. A deep, droning sound suggests a problem with the silencer itself. Over time, the nuts, bolts and clamps that hold the exhaust system together can loosen up and rattle. You might be able to tighten these yourself, but be sure to not overtighten anything. A hole or crack in the exhaust pipe will cause a loud leak. Patching a small hole with exhaust sealant might be a temporary fix, but a more permanent solution is likely to involve replacing the exhaust section. Silencers are designed to quieten the exhaust, and they can wear out over time. A damaged silencer won't be as effective, making the exhaust louder.Hope this helps.
  21. Hmmm. 0W8 looks very very thin when you see this. Not a very scientific test but interesting non the less.
  22. This is the biggest problem - There is absolutely no consistency between different insurers, sometimes even ones that are clearly part of the same group to the point even their websites are identical but with different logos and colour schemes. Even with my steel rims, some just noted them down, others tried to class them as third-party alloy wheels which bumped up the premium and when I objected on the grounds that was inaccurate (And thus against their own terms and conditions) I'd end up climbing the chain until someone with enough authority either saw sense or insisted. Some even say you have to declare any factory-fitted options as they class them as modifications, even though that should be already taken into account from the registration. (I argued that too, since on their system mine literally came up as Excel with Tech Pack!) You can play games with some of them like that though - For some, declaring e.g. parking sensors and other standard safety equipment can actually make the premium go down even though it should already be taken into account It's a PITA because you have to waste vast amounts of time tailoring your car spec to specific insurers' to get an optimal quote. One annoying thing is they often won't let you declare something uninsured - When I was thinking about PPF'ing mine, I was shocked how much that jacks up the premium, and when I queried it, it was purely down to the cost of them re-applying the PPF, but when I offered to have that excluded from the insurance, most said they couldn't or wouldn't do that, so in the end I didn't bother... It's a bit like when I had my Mk1 with its disgusting scabby rims - I could have replaced them with same-size cheapo Wolfrace ebay specials but that would have added £70+ to my insurance every year, so I ended up spending twice as much to have them refurbished and powdercoated! You really have to check what they count as a modification, and they don't make it easy. Most of the good insurers class anything that "Increases the value or performance" as a modification and don't care about things like dashcams and wind deflectors (or my steel rims ) but even with those you should still get them to note down such things (This will confuse the agent so be prepared to patiently explain to them they can note things down that aren't in their modifications list . There is a 50/50 chance they will escalate it to a supervisor as their minds can't handle it ) However some particularly moronic companies, like MoreThan (Now gone! ), have wording that basically means *any* modification needs to be declared, without any limiters, so potentially if you change the car mats or put in a seat cushion without telling them the wording of their T&Cs implies they could void your insurance It's all just very unreasonable - You practically have to be a lawyer to be able to dig through these things to understand them...

Toyota UK website has removed pricing for the Hilux and put a banner saying limited availability. Anyone know what's up? New model coming?

    Driver's door seal

Hi Dave, have a look at this video it isn't your model or year but it will give you an idea of how the seal is replaced. The trim at the bottom should just pull off. Hope this helps. https://youtu.be/JhBMVQynJGI?si=Kqi2cidkQmPkm8Ks
