Fuel Economy On A New Aygo?

Hi all,

Just wondering, I'm buying my first Brand new car in September (been driving for a while tho) and i want know what to expect in terms of MPG?

Being a new Car..it has to be "worn" in a bit first..

So what MPG can be expected from a new 1 litre aygo with optimal drive? - and at how many miles will the car reach its maximum mpg?

Any ideas on what the difference will be?

Thanks

Matt

Hi all,

and I want to know what to expect in terms of MPG?

Hi,

I only use my Blue for a short commute to work and, after just six weeks,

I haven't burnt off my first full tank yet so I don't have an accurate figure.

However, in round figures, I'll be expecting 400 miles with an eight gallon

tank and I'll be more than happy with 50 miles per gallon.

I started off at about 55mpg in a facelift C1. But after 10k it was more like 60mpg. I'm now up to 15k and its still 60mpg.

The running in period is the first 600 miles or so. I was getting about 58-60mpg from new (now done 11K) - mainly A -road travel - no town really - depends on what type of driving you're doing. Enjoy your new Aygo - it's a great little car!!.

Having just changed from the OEM turbine alloys and Eco Contact3s to 6.5 x 15s and 195/45 15s, my economy overall has dropped from 48 to 44 mpg.

Increased rolling resistance I guess. At least they will last you twice as long as the Eco's which seem to be made of pape mache.

Did I spell that right, I am merde at Francais?

Thats good then - Once run in i would like to achieve 60mpg minimum (i am a steady driver anyway)

The running in period is the first 600 miles or so.

Yeh i was thinking of taking the first 1000 miles as "running in" - then driving it more how i want from then on (not a "racer" type driver anyways)

Enjoy your new Aygo - it's a great little car!!.

Cheers!! :D

Can't wait get it!

4 weeks and 6 days to go!

Well I seem to be getting about 54mpg out of my MMT just now, so I am hoping that will improve over time.

sounds promising -- how many miles a week do you drive?

Matt :)

I would rarely exceed 50 miles per week and most single

journeys to work are just under 3 miles.

I would never normally buy a new car for that job but, under the

UK scrappage scheme, Toyota made me a £2500 offer for my 13

year old Ford Escort that I just couldn't refuse!

You can get my full mpg history from the link below, recently averaging 64mpg and based on my current fillups could get 500 miles out of a 35litre tank.

Alot of the mpg is down to changing the way I drive, trying not to come to a complete stop, letting the engine slow the car down rather than the brakes, reading the road well ahead to reduce the chances of having to brake and do excesive acceleration.

Make much difference to the journey time as I'm wasting alot less time stopping a waiting

Just had a look through your recent mpg - its a very useful way of monitoring it.

Seems to be doing 60 to 64 mpg - with the occasional spike upto 68.

which is very good !

In terms of the way you drive - thats what i'm gonna try do...

Reduce stopping, plan ahead, etc etc. Just genrally keep the throttle pedal as far away from the floor pan as possible lol!!

Will be interested to see how well it can do...partly because i based the purchase of the car on its fuel savings Vs the old car. I calculated on it doing 60mpg minimum...so as long as it does that its all good.

I'm happy if I get 50mpg minimum, more than double what I got out of my V6. It's working that way so far at the 54mpg so let's see what I get when I top it up next week. :)

lol! a V6!!!

You got half the cylinders to fuel now! a straight 3!! haha!

I'm moving from a 1.3 yaris to a 1.0 aygo..so my gains wont be as significant but still, aygo is more economical!

Plus - 95% of the time theres only me in the car...so the 3 spare seats, the bonnet and the boot are all a waste of space as far as i'm concerned!...hmm can i get a bit more mpg by stripping the car of all unnecessary items!

Throw the petrol tank away. . . . . . . you'll hardly need it

It is quite a difference in the drive between the Camry and the Aygo, but truth be told, I don't really miss anything as much as I thought I would. Only been to the petrol station once since I got Squeak, normally would have been twice in the old car. :D Still having to resist the urge not to fill up at 300miles or so, want to see what I can get out of her.

Got to the dreaded 'beep' a while back and put in 31 litres. Reached the 'beep' today at 410 miles and calculated that comes back to 60mpg :bookworm: . Have to say very pleased with that :)

If I compare it to how many mpg I got driving my previous car steadily I reckon that's around £40 - £45 saving on petrol since I got the car (end of June). I suppose my fuel economy will vary a bit but as a rough estimate I am looking to save £400 ish a year on fuel. . . add that to the tax which is another £200 ish cheaper ( + £77.00 refund from DVLA) and the insurance and I'm looking at spending £650 - £700 less over the next year to roll along Her Majesty's highway!! :D

As long as I have no problems, that = :yahoo:

Not had the beep yet, on last bar before the reserve, so shall see where it goes. How long did your tax refund take to come through? And how many months was that for?

Refund took about 3 weeks as I recall. It had 5 months tax left to run.

I'm gonna give it a good few weeks before I work out how much I've saved or will save over a longer period. Bit disappointed that I only got £31 back from Admiral after dropping from group 15 to group 1e (is that right for the aygo?), so will shop around good next year.

Yeah, a good idea - perhaps a bit early to be looking so far ahead but have really noticed the difference re:petrol.

1e sounds right (same for me).

Cheers.
