Gear Box Noise

Hello

I wonder if any one can help me i am getting some noise from my gear box and dont know if it is cluch or gear box.The noise is a knocking noise when i change down from 4th to 3rd,3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st if i change gear quick the noise is minimal but if i lift the clutch slowly when canging down the noise is more consistant.There is no noise when changing up through the gears.My car is a avensis 2 liter d 4d deisel 51 plate.

Thanks for your reply it has done 153,000 miles the noise is not there when it is idle only when you change down gears
