Gearbox S*****d!

Hi guys,

Basically I've been hearing a slight grinding noise in all gears apart from 1st and reverse and only below 3000 revs. So I took it to a garage and they said the gearbox would probably need an overhaul. They quoted me £1132 for gearbox, clutch and labour inc. VAT. Is this expensive?? And is it common on these cars as its only done 42000 miles!!

I was also thinking is it possible to fit a 1.8 T-sport engine and box into my 5dr T2 model? If so I might seriously consider it!!

Thanks in advance

Why is it that T-Sports have so many problems with the gear-box? Is it just me or are there more and more problems with the box?

I don't hear much about GTi's and AE86's 'box going like this. But then again that may just be down to there popularity. :g:

I have to admit, when i first got my t sport, the gearbox was dead notchy. but after a while it seems to have bedded in. Changing the gearbox oil is a good idea.

If it's only a noise it'll probably be fine. Don't bother paying out over a grand just to get rid of it.

T Sports make the same noise!

just remember 160bhb at the wheels is pants , don't need much of a gearbox to handle that

If you dont like it and get sick of hearing it then get out of the corolla forum. 321bhp in a transit van what a waste of money go buy a real sports car?

t-sport = hot hatch

transit van= do you really need 321bhp to deliver stuff lol

finnaly before you say the TS is not a hatch check out wikipedia, it is classed as a hot hatch. Proven it does 0-60 quicker than booktime by various sources IE Top gear is one!

car comes with all usual hot hatch refinements stiffer suspensions etc. So it was set up to be a hot hatch and does provide very reasonable performance for what it is.

If you think 160bhp at the wheels is poor then what do you have to say about the new gti? type r? ST? astra vxr?

we run less weight compared to most of the others so our wheel bhp is not to much to fuss about!!! we keep up

take the transit van and deliver my goods mate, with 321bhp my deliveries should get to me quicker :P

Why should i stay out of the Corolla forum, i own two of them, and the answer to having a van with over 300bhp ,you may think its a waste of money but i like tuning engines, especally old Ford ones, and i would love to deliver youre goods mate, i could even put them somewhere nice for you :D :P
