Avensis Gearbox Bearings

Hi

I have a 03 avensis (new shape) 1.6 petrol with 79K on the clock.

There is a knocking sound from the gearbox and the main dealer says it's the bearings and the cost is 600 euro to replace. I understand this is a common problem?? is this true???

Last week the dash light came on and the plug in told me the cat converter is nearing the end of it's days.

I have had many toyotas but i have to say that this avensis is a heap of crap.

I don't think that gearbox bearings should be failing at 79K miles.

SHould i get the main dealer to do the bearing change or should i get another mechanic to do it???? Is the main dealer !Removed! me with the price

john ,

the dual mass flywheel is a more common issue,are you sure its not that clunkin around.just had to do mine.do a serch on here to diagnose.

hope its not as its a dearer job by at least double
