Knocking Noise When Reversing/braking

Im getting a knock every now and then, not sure where exactly it just sounds beneath me.

I first noticed it when reversing and then braking. It sometimes knocks when braking normally (ie going forwards) but mostly when reversing then pulling fowards.

Did a little searching on here and saw it could be a stone or something? I was worried it might be something more serious but any thoughts would be appreciated as usual.

Btw it only ever knocks once, it doesnt keep knocking

figured it out i think, it seems to be the brake pad sliding when i reverse then brake.

i hear this is common?

Common problem....if you can call it a problem...the brake pads are naturally pushed in the direction of rotation of the wheel when going forward so when you brake you dont get a knock...when you reverse the pads move in the caliper and knock when they hit the back (only slight movement, less than a mm)

shims should ba available from MrT to help prevent this.

cheers mate, apparently civics are bad for it and it think avensis's.

can you get a 1mm shim? can it do any damage other than to my sanity?
