Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor

hi all, as per the title I have never had VVTi working since I've had my current Gen 7 and feel its time to sort it out. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts, or know what the wires are supposed to look like when clean inside the MAF? I'm using this guide and thinking about buying this cleaner to help, if anyone has any thoughts on the guide or the cleaning solutions either I'd be really grateful to hear from you.
