Key Problem

2005 Avensis Key fob has stopped working won't lock/unlock remotely ..... the red led on key lights up when you press button but locks don't open. The red led in car still flashes when car is locked manually. Is it somthing simple like change Battery or worse If i change Battery does the key need to be reprogrammed? Thanks in advance
