Lost Locking Wheel Nut Removal Tool

Help...

Somehow during a recent house move I have lost the locking wheel nut set that came with my 2003 (53 plate) Avensis T3-X.

I need to get the rear wheels off asap so I can have the tyres changed asap so I can have the car MOT'd.

Is there an easy way that this can be done without the tool or will a Toyota garage be able to help if I take the car there?

Please help!!

Hi

If you have the number that came with the locknut key, a new one can be supplied.

I am not sure if they can supply one just from your registration number though, but no harm in asking.

It is about £30.00 for a new set from Toyota, but you still have to get the old ones off in the first place.

Good luck!

Hi. I had a problem with my wheel nuts(one knackered). Gave up trying to remove it, and went to Kwik-Fit. I too needed new tyres, but i told them that i would only buy if they would remove the locking bolt first. It took them less than a minute to remove it, without damaging the alloy as well. Worth a try. Best of luck.

Some dealers have spare locking wheel nut keys for cases like this. Worth a try asking to see if they can help.

Most garages have a removal tool, which can be hammered on & remove it that way.

I had that problem after a mechanic lost my locking socket (Of course denied it!!). I went to my local ATS Euromaster & they removed it, with a tool he hammered on & off they came. He advised that most tyre centres had them, but some are reluctant to use them. Don't know how factual that is though.

Cheers,

Marama

Hi,

The kits are available. This link shows what they are like, but expensive at £104 for joe public to buy. http://www.motorserv.com/shop_item.php?pro...nNlY3Rpb25pZD04

I just found this quote off a site, which I forgot about. This does work, as I have ssen it done years ago.

A 6 sided socket (12mm to get the ones on mine off),1 heavy club hammer and a bit of luck should get any locking nut off i had to do this because some doughnut did my locking nuts up with an air rachet and nackerd the locating pins on the socket

The full link for it is http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=130591

Just found a set on eBay for removing them for £12.90 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LASER-2-PIECE-LOCKIN...5QQcmdZViewItem

There are plenty others available on eBay

To marama32,

If Toyota are the same as company i work for they may well have box full of different locking sockets, plus most of the mechanics will have specialist tools as suggested above to remove old wheel nut. All tyre shops (some don't like to use them if you have flash pricey alloys, incase of damage) have them, just make sure you point out clearly which locking nuts have to come off & make sure you let them know that your alloys are in perfect order before going ahead. Just takes a minute or so as suggested above.

Regards, Beagh.

Hello All,

Just thought that I would let you know that I have managed to get a new locking wheel nut key. I phoned Toyota UK to see they could held. They liased with my local dealer to contact the manufacturer of the keys who managed to source the PIN number of the keys from my VIN number.

New key cost £11.44 - much cheaper then getting them taken off at a garage and wrecking then.
