Someone Must Have Some Idea.

When i first sart my carina e 3s fe i get the map sensor code come up & the engine is really ruff, but then the eml goes off & the car runs smooth, i have changed the map sensor & checked the wiring & checked for a blockage but all seems to be fine except, On the powersteering pump there is a valve type thing that has 2 vacume pipes coming off it if i take one of the pipes off i get suction but when i take the other off there is nothing, is this how it should be or should i have suction on bothsides of the what i think is a valve, it's the same as the first one after the map sesor that is in the back of the air intake over the rocker box.

Your ideas would be most appreciated as this is really getting to me now.
