6th Year Service, What To Check ?.

As title.

I usually get a service at a dealer but have decided as it's only worth around 2k now i'll just do the odd bits myself to save costs.

Just wondering what to do for a service as mentioned above I've never looked into it and always got someone else to do it.

Change all filters

Engine oil

Gearbox oil.

Change brake fluid.

Check power steering fluid

Check brakes incl remove rear drums, clear out crud, inspect linings and cylinders for leaks.

Check driveshaft boots

Check exhaust.

Check coolant: should be long life (pink). If not replace.

Check exhaust.

Oil all door hinges.

Check handbrake

Check all Wiper Blades.

Carefully inspect all drive belts for cracks and replace if needed.

Check all engine and gearbox rubber mounts for cracking.

Check for front balljoint wear..

I'm tired.. there is no doubt more...

Have a look in the Toyota service booklet, it will tell you what needs to be done at the reccomended mileage or year.

If it needs too much for you to do, take it to the dealer or a good independent garage (For a fraction of the cost). ;)

Interestingly, now that my Audi is out of warranty, my Audi dealer is offering reduced price servicing and their pricing meets or beats the local independent specialist (and its less than it costs to service the Yaris!)

I know Toyota don't seem to offer that yet, but it might be worth bargaining with your dealer. If they're not busy, they might negotiate...
