MpG figures for the diesel. Except for being 7 miles better round town than my Carina 1.8 auto petrol the other figues are not quite as good would you believe! Find this out on Autotrader and click on on a dealer selling these cars and then click on performace figures

I've got a 1994 Diesel with 180,000 miles on the clock and its still regularly giving @ 44mpg

I live in a rural area and never get near a motorway, and hardly touch a main road, so all my mileage is done on backroads. I get an average of 40mpg over a tankful.

I've recently started driving for economy, just tooling along at the same acceleration and speeds as in my Transit and discovered a new feature - it's quite frugal. I can get it to touch 50mpg without too much hassle, but any more economy than that would as boring as hell. I suspect the later turbo diesel lump would be better.
