Lest We Forget

This is a video sent to me by Canadian relations in honour of their war dead, but it applies to all :(

My Father had 2 brothers & they drew straws to see which of them would enlist to fight Hitler. My Uncle jack R.I.P. won[or lost] . He survived the Desert War with Monty & was killed at the Battle for Monte Casino when his tank took a direct hit from a bomb. Tens of thousands, if not 100s of thousands of Irish signed up & were killed in the 2 World Wars.

Thank you for posting that moving video Victor

I attended a "Powered by Mercedes Benz Live" event at Brooklands, Weybridge on Sunday with over 20,000 people present.

At 11AM the complete place fell silent for 2 minutes......................You could have honestly heard a pin drop!

So it can be done......................Respect to those who so courageously gave their lives so that we can be free

It does annoy me when the 2 minute silence is ignored. At work we have to carry on regardless, most people are oblivious.

Ditto the above .

There was a small ceremony on the pitch on sunday before our game with Man-U , whereby both sets of players formed a guard of honour to welcome members of the armed forces onto the pitch plus chelsea pensioners , they recieved rapturous applause from the crowd , and the chelsea fans broke into song singing Rule Britannia , the Man-U fans were not so gracious they did not join in and they tried to drown the song out by chanting a Man-U song , the 2 minutes silence was observed impeccably from those within the stadium , however faint singing could be heard from the united end of the ground , and we can only guess it was from a large number of utd fans that were still whithin the bar area's ( in which case they would have been made aware of the 2 minutes silence ) , highly disrespectfull in anyones book , the chelsea players had a poppy embossed onto the centre of their shirts as a mark of respect , but utd did not , why ?? , this could have been achieved on a white background so it did not clash with the red of their shirts , there is a fair amount of ant-britishness about that club , they and a fair amount of their fans are a disgrace , if it were not for the bravery of the british & allied armed forces we would not be living in a free society as we know it today .

yeah really noticed it this year that the silence was observed by more people, guess its more poignant with the current events in afghanistan.

lets never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifise so we can have the freedom (well that which is allowed with the current govenment) that we have today.
