Can anyone help me on this one. Is the black window highlighted supposed to show anything...is it a clock ? And all 3 dials for the heater controls do not illuminate when headlights are switched on, is something gone or needs replacing there ?

Heater controls should be illuminated when the sidelights/headlights are on - so maybe a blown bulb(s) on the heater panel.

Not sure on the black panel on the Corolla T3 - MPG display maybe ??

no the black window should be black, its the area that would be a clock in the higher spec rollas, tsport or had climate control or sat nav, your heater area should be lit up as the others said when you have side lights on, there are two bulbs lighting up that area, if it is the bulbs that are gone they cost me €7 from Mr.T, you need to take off the gear knob, take out the ash tray, pull the 1-4 heater control straight off, take out the screw, pull the gear knob area off 1st from ash tray area, then the upper half, i would doubt it would be a fuse, probably the bulbs

Dimmers are turned upto max.

The upper half just won't budge. I've taken the gear nob off, the screw in the 1-4 dial, the ash tray but to no joy. I've pushed and pulled that area but it won't move. Are there any other screws holding it in place ?

no that is it, if it hasnt been taken out before it may be tight, you have to take out the lower part 1st (around the gear knob), put both hand in to ashtray opening, grab hold of cig lighter area, pull up forcefully but gently at the same time, enough to get it out but not to hard to break the wee clips, then the same with the top half

To get the center out everything needs to come apart.

1. Take gear knob off.

2. Take handbrake plug out.

3. There is 2 screws in the box in the center of the drivers and passenger seats under the felt both need to come out

4. Then the ash tray there is 2 screws need undoing.

5. Slide the main center part back to give you space to work with.

6. Take the face off the stereo to give more room.

7. Take the screw out behind the 1-4 dial.

8. Take the trim that surrounds the gear knob off.

9. Push the slider for air to come in from outside the car and to circulate in toward as this is not attached.

10. With care remove the center console this part will be hard but toyotas good build quality means the clips are strong and should not snap.

This could be the long way around this but is the best way for giving yourself a lot of room to work with and making sure nothing brakes.

Have done this many time because of spraying mine :)

lad, you have the poor man stripping half his car for two wee bulbs, nice formatting and tidy instructions but alot of extra work, why would he go near the handbreak or centre box? everything in bold just seems a little mad, the rest seems grand and iam not just 100% but i dont think the two screws in the ashtray need to come out, now mine is the facelift but i cant see much of a difference, havent had mine out in about 6 months though, so could be wrong

I did this to give myself room and also was only about 2min extra work.

on mine you need to undo the screws behind the ash tray to remove the center as there is the 2clips behind it.

  • 1 month later...

Sorry for dragging this up again

I have the same problem, everything undone but still not moving.

The sliding lever for the air control (fresh air- re-cycle air) does that come out with the panel or does it stay there?????

It seem's that is where it's sticking.

It stays there from what i can remember. (99.9% sure!) as long as youve got 1 screw out from behind the heater speed knob, a good tug should take the panel off.
