Iq2 Automatic Mpg Figures

Hi Guys

I am driving an iQ2 with the auto gearbox, I use it mainly in town and have been getting around 42 mpg which I was never sure if that was good or not but recently its dropped to around 38 mpg, any ideas?

is this about right or should i get it checked out

You would expect the mpg to fall with the colder weather I drive a polo and the mpg always falls away in the colder months by around 5mpg so I would say nothing to worry about

I use the fuely site for our cars THIS is the fuel consumption from new of my wife's IQ2 (manual), I'm hoping it will improve once it settles down and the weather improves. ;)

My '58 reg Fiesta Mk 6.5, has dropped 5 MPG, since the cold weather, due to me using the heater, + A/C, + heated front screen to de-mist the insides of the windows. If I used a cloth, as my wife does on her Aygo, I would save a bit, but the fuel-injection still ramps-up the fuel dosage, just as a choke-knob would, in cold weather, but the engine will heat up quicker if you can hold-off from valving on the heater for a while after a cold start, just rely on the fan-blast to your screen etc., to see properly, + the rear demister. (although that takes power, just as the A/C does.)

P.S., diesel cars also have a cold-start fuel enrichment, in addition to the glow-plugs, and are slow to heat up due to higher fuel-efficiency.

I have been thinking of improvising a radiator blind. ( There used to be roller-type blinds on very old cars, and air-cooled Citroens had a plastic unit that got fitted outside the grille of my 1978 model GS estete, for the duration of the winter;-- you would get zero heat off the heater otherwise, because it came straight off the cylinder-barrel fins. The other small Citroens also had plastic winter air-intake-baffles.)

The quicker you can drive-away after starting the engine, the better, use your garage, or get a windscreen tie-on insulator. Or park facing the rising sun, as my wife's rear windows get demisted by the sun most mornings, but the radiator faces the prevailing wind, so the front screen is misted or frozen, regularly, costing time and fuel.

I don't think there's anything to worry about, Arshavin.....except for your fuel bills of course! :D

I live in an area that's all hills and twisty country lanes, and I regularly get these sort of figures.

Only when I get onto the A-roads for a bit does it rise to about 50ish. :huh:

One wonders where the Hell Toyota got those 60mpg figures from in the first place. :unsure:

My first fill, (iQ2 CVT), yielded 52.5 mpg. This on about a 70/30 mix of A road/urban driving here in hilly Devon. The next 2 top-ups it has dropped to 45.2 which is a little disappointing, but the weather conditions, gale force winds, flooded roads etc, have been atrocious, so I guess it's only to be expected; on a fair summers day it'll obviously be different!

I think after the run-in period, MPG should improve, so perhaps I'm expecting too much at this early stage and with this weather!

Hi Guys,

I am new here and my new IQ2 automatic gave me 38mpg in first fuel up.

I have made a big change from a lexus down to an IQ and I am afraid my Lexus wasnt that bad in terms of MPG when compared to what I am getting here.

Any advice will be appreciated.

The very 1st tank of petrol won't go very far at all.

Once your IQ has done a few miles and the engine has run in/loosened up a bit then the mpg should increase. I read somewhere that optimal effecifiency may not be reached until after the first 3,000 miles or so.

If you don't see an increase then get it booked in.

HI, MY IQ2 HAS DONE 3,500 MILES NOW AND LAST WEEK IT DID 66 MPG, I DO ALOT OF MOTORWAY MILES DURING THE WEEK AND SOME URBAN AT THE WEEKENDS.

I HAVE ALWAYS AVERAGED BETWEEN 60 AND 68 MPG.

I AM SINCE I SOLD MY MERC AND BOUGHT THE IQ ON THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER THIS YEAR A VERY CAREFULL DRIVER AND NEVER SPEED, ON THE MOTORWAY I STICK TO THE INSIDE LANE WITH THE TRUCKS WHICH ARE LIMITED TO BETWEEN 53 AND 59 MILES PER HOUR.
