Can anyone tell me where the map sensor is on a 97 rav4, 2.0 ltr, manual. Ive ad it plugged in today + its showin the map sensor error code(31). Both the auto electrian + myself looked for it + cant find it, its not between the throttle body + airbox. Ive ordered a haynes manual off the internet 2day but if anyone already has one + could av a look where the map sensor is on the 97 model id appreciate it. my rav is orginally a 94 gx, 2ltr, manual but the replacment engine is a 97. Both 3sfe engines. A description of what it looked like wud help as well as where it is. I know every part of this engine, I know all the sensor but I avnt seen a map sensor. Im thinkin its the valve that plugs in below the inlet manifold right at the back of the engine but im sure thats the egr vsv + its not the easiest thing to get to. Do both the 94 + 97 have map sensor? If anyone has a manual + cud look into it id appreciate the help Thanks laura

Hi Legs.

Its (Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor) a little plastic device on a metal bracket on the bulkhead with a wiring plug connected to the right side of it and a vacuum pipe coming up to the bottom of it. The trouble is they moved it from just to the left of the heater pipes to a little way over to the right of them (as you look). If you take some photos of the devices on the bulkhead that fit the description, I will tell you which one it is.

Hi anchorman, thanks for that ive found it now. I was looking around the throttle body area. So, I guess lookin at it theres not much I can do other than replace it with a new one.? Do you know if these often fail.? Im just checkin the wiring up to it from the ignition coil + all looks ok. Any ideas.? Thanks

You were looking for the MAF not the MAP! I'll see what I can find for testing but your ECU has the message that it isn't working as it should.
