Keep cool McT!

1/ Is the rear centre seat belt stowed in the roof properly? It must be rolled up inside itself as shown on the little diagram on the label.

2/ Does it do it woth the parcel shelf out of the car?

3/ What other modifications are there to the car and what accessories are on it?

4/ Does it do it with the front head rests flat down to the seat?

Ya see...its one of the downsides of owning 5 doors, all exposed to the weather. You need to set aside 3 weeks of your precious time and oil all those hinges. Make sure all those door locks are doing their job properly...shutting and keeping all those doors nice and snug and tight. Are the window mechanisms in all those doors working properly or has one of the many glass guides/channels worked itself loose? Has a malicious neighbour dropped a penny down beside the window glass so it reverberates around at the bottom of one of those doors?

A very annoying problem. I'd suggest you weld up the doors one by one. If that doesn't help, then fill each one with expanding foam. If that doesn't help, you are 60% towards making your canal boat! The remaining task is to attach wires to the roof from the dash to control it when submerged and attach yer vacuum cleaner hose to the air filter to prevent ingress of water. I assume you have a sunroof in said vehicle.... think about all that road fund tax you'll save, and the demand you will have when the rains hit your area soon (aka Noah). (edit - oops sorry - yer too slow for that one)

Check ALL seatbelt buckles are stowed properly, my frt passenger one rattles against the plastic trim sometimes maybe your rears are doing the same, get someone in the back whilst you are driving to try + locate where the noise is coming from, have a good look under the car, not picked up any foreign objects? Even a stone in your tyre treads...Stew

The seat belt is stowed as described on label the parcel shelf isnt in the car and there is only mudflaps and side steps and havnt tried the head rest thing yet but noise is defo coming from rear as just spent one of the wierdest half hours rolling about in boot as the good lady drives about and of course says im only trying to get her down country lane in dark and in the back ;) but sound seems to be coming from underneath and sounds like a cable knock so will have a scramble underneath tomorrow to lookk for any unwanted passengers and loose cables

  • 2 weeks later...

Well been to Mr T and one of the tech guys came a run with me and he too could hear the rattle (thank god i thought i was going mad !) i left it with them at 9:30 am and told them to phone me when car was ready as i had some crimbo shopping to do! 6 HOURS later and a lot o shopping they phoned and said car was ready but they would talk to me when i got to garage.... it would appear that they dismantled the whole back of car bit by bit and then took it for a run to eliminate parts didnt mind but have to take car back as they have knackered some clips and brackets that they have ordered...... also NEW prob radio LCD display fades after about an hour of driving so new radio going into it at the same time as the back has to be stripped out again !

THINK I SHOULDVE WENT WITH THE TURN THE RADIO UP IDEA !

anybody else have the problem of the LCD fading?

Yes, I was just about to ask if anybody else has a problem with the radio screen, when it's first turned on its fine and as far as I know it's fine in the daylight, but in the dark after about 1 hour it becomes very faded, but if you position yourself into the centre of the car, looking directly at the lcd it improves slightly. I've noticed this for a while now and it isn't getting any worse. As asked earlier, has anyone noticed this and if so what did you have done, and did the new one do the same? Thanks Mike. PS. let us know what the rattle was.

Just a wee update the rattle has been silenced !!! it would appear it was the centre seat belt (stored in roof) and some attatchment holding it in place what ever they did it worked and as far as the radio thing it was just a straight swap so once again uncle arnie comes good .....! after market service is great and i would recommend them.... well the garage at Ayr anyway Anyways the snow is here and im off to have some fun with my non rattling fade free radio 4x4

MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody Dazza :D

Hi, Mc Tavish good news on the rattle, can you let me/us know if the radio screen fade is cured once you've had chance to give it a long test. I'm fearful of having a new one if it is a common unfixable fault, as the present one is perfect in every other way. Thanks Mike
