I have just bought a 2001 190 celica and find the brakes are very spongy, is this a comon problem that anyone else has had?

Thanks

Hi RyanF2258

Yes, the gen 7 does have 'soft' brakes

The brakes are OK, but they need to be worked a little bit more than other cars

You'll get used to it after a while

I'm considering uprating the to EBC grooved discs & Red Stuff pads in the future

Remove your wheels front and rear, make sure the callipers slide completley, ie: they are free to move, and pads not siezed in their carriers, and check the inside disc surface for condition.

Also check the condition of the flexi brake hoses - tend to give a bit under pressure as they get older.:)

Thanks for the info guys, Front and rear brakes now stripped, cleaned, greassed, new pads & painted. They now look better and work slightly better lol still feel spongy tho so I will renew the brake fluid next see if that helps.
