To any interested parties.

With earlier MK11 models with TNS300ETA sat/nav fitted, you have a facility to re-calibrate sat/nav via settings page which lets ECM-Sat/Nav know new tyres have been fitted. Thus, I presume resetting system.

Regards, Beagh.

TNS700 can be reset/recalibrated too.

Btw Toyota dealers charge £115 to fit replacement "premium" tyres to an Avensis under the Fixed Price Promise http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyota/bv/...terSalesService.

I suspect exact tyres vary dealer to dealer but probably worth a phone call.

Hello Paul, that's where my Federals (about the same price) came from, Ears Motorsports always had a good name .... even back in my Mk 1 AVO Escort Mexico days ;)

Hi All,

I've gone from a Focus to an '07 D4D Avensis TR with 215-50-17 tyres and am surprised, to say the least, at the price of replacement. The Focus would cost me around £80 per tyre, an equivalent for the Avensis is about £160! The total price range I have been quoted is £60 for budget going up to £132 for Bridgestones and 163 for Michelin.

Has anyone got any recommendations for tyres, e.g. is it worth paying the extra £30 for Michelin over Bridgestones? Are there any cheaper tyres that can be recommended?

Thanks,

Neil.

Hi mate, a mate of mine has an Avensis D4D 180 as a taxi and is very impressed with Nexan N3000 215/50/17w (similar tread pattern to the Falkens) which replaced his Goodyear NCT's, they were £220.00 for 4 fitted and balanced. I have the Federal at £55.00 each on the front and the original Goodyear NCT's on the rear, the Federals are good but the tyre shop who sell both say the Nexan 3000 are better.

Regards Pete.

Just a thought on the changing of tyres and putting different on front and back. If your car has Electronic Stability Programme the computer expects all four tyres to have the same rolling resistance for it to work properly, so a mixture of tyre makes, sizes or types could affect the efficiency of ESP.

Same applies to Which? does it? These tyres are cheap for a reason. Most of them earn the covetted Which "Don't Buy" award for a very good reason as well.

Not at all, but you asked the question "rubbers rubber, right?" I have answered you with evidence to support why "rubber is not rubber", which you're now disputing. You asked, I answered - if you don't like the answer - fine! But the evidence still stands that cheap tyres are invariably a poor choice when it comes to safety and performance. Not always...but almost always.

Edit: did some checks and the Sunews are made by the same company that makes the Linglong and Wanli tyres featured in the Continental test. The Wanli's get a similar performance rating on Which, rated "Don't buy".

lol. Because they're dirt cheap!!!! Look, you're happy with them and that's fine because it's you driving the car. You simply asked a question and I answered it. All I'm saying is that cheap tyres are invariably very poor quality. Perhaps the Sunew's are different, despite the fact they are made by the company behind the horrors of the Linglong and Wanli's.

Hi there I run a 2.2 as a taxi and would recommend Nexan N3000 also Roadstone Korean tyres they are all budget no problems running them they last approx 20000 on front and 45000 on rear dont waste money on top brands. You should aim to pay around £60.00 for one.
