Ts Buying Questions?

Hi all,

I think I asked this a while back, but can't seem to find my original post. I was thinking of buying a TS last year, but made the mistake of going for a Mitsubishi Colt instead (I needed a 5 door). I've never got on with the Colt, so I'm on the hunt for a 5 door TS again. Just a couple of questions......

-any common problems?

-are higher miles an issue - I've seen one with 85k miles on an 04 plate

-do they use a cam belt or chain?

Thank you :)

hi m8 . common problems with t sport are

lift bolts .make sure lift works.

seats pins but that doesnt effect the 5 door.

heater matrix .make sure you have heat from the vent next to the drivers window when you look at one.

they use a cam chain .

people on here have them with over 85k with no issues

96k now and only issue i've had is the mentioned Matrix, been replaced and all is well.

She has done me proud in this bad weather for sure.

5 door also looks soooooo much nicer IMO ...... yes IMO ....

You are not alone with that opinion. ;)

Overall very good cars, from what I see and here often, I think that you will be very happy with it. :)

No common issues, like said above make sure you test it to the rev limiter, it should pull SMOOTHLY with a nice sudden increase in power when lift comes in.

Should last a long time IMO

They use a chain.

Have a look on Auto Trader fella, there are a few TS with lower miles than you said.

Do remember the 5dr only comes in the Pre-Facelift in this country, a downside to some but still looks nicer than a 3dr facelift ..... IMO

As above have a good look round...

I narrowed my search down to 2, discounted one immediately when i went round the back of it... had some awful rear lights... can't remember the name of them tho

 ;)

you've narrowed your search down to a prefacelift car, so it will be higher mileage and at least 5 years old.

I would check all of the electrics,

check the lift bolts. the older cars didn't have the revised bolts.

Check the lights.

Check the track rods for bending or cracking

check suspension bushes for creaking

check the handbrake doesn't stick and go clunk as you drive forward

CTS can blow smoke on startup, don't know if this is normal but mine does it so don't worry to much about that. after 15 seconds it should stop

CHECK THE CLUTCH!!! and gearbox for worn synchros.

Mine is 6 yrs old with 96k and suffers from NONE of the above, mostly ensure it has FSH.

well its not a chronic fault list, its where the car is prone. track rods etc are not kerb friendly, if you've seen VAG track rods versus corolla track rods you'll know what I mean.

Clutch is a definite weakness in my opinion.
