Rattling Engine At Certain Revs

Hi - My wife has just written off our Fiiat Multipla and I decided to replace it with a Toyota Corolla as we used to have a Yaris which she was very happy with. I found a 02 1.4 T3 with only 27,000 miles at a local dealer and bought it. The car is immaculate but has one annoying feature which is a noisy rattle at certain revs. It seems to be coming from the right hand side of the engine (looking from the front) near the inlet manifold. I've taken the engine cover off for a look but the noise seems to be coming from inside the engine. Any ideas?

I know it sounds silly but have you got any oil in it?

Oil is fine - the car was serviced by the dealer prior to buying. Thanks for the thought though.

Hi,

It is quite possible that it is the inlet manifold rattling which is caused by a loose baffle. This is not a hugely common problems but does effect the corollas plastic inlet manifold. This link may help you solve the problem if you can confirm it is the inlet manifold.

I have looked at this link and this screw will certainly solve your problem. However there is no need to remove the maifold if you put the screw in in opposite direction.I used a narrow chipboard screw to bore the hole as it would be hard to use a drill and bit in that location.Put the screw in at 45 degrees. The job should be done in less than 10 minutes

it could be the gear box my old car started like that at high revs before it died or even the water pump
