i am having problems with my car (a 1993 celica), one is the temp gauge. when i have been driving for a while (enough to make it run at norm temp), sometimes the gauge will drop to one line above C. it doesnt have a pattern or anything. i am sure there could be a trillion explanations, so i hope you can help me.

I'm sure someone will have a better idea than me, but it sounds like there is a problem with the guage itself, the sender unit for the guage, or a connection problem (which could just be dirt).

Unfortunately if its an intermittant problem, it could be hard to trace, but I would start with checking and cleaning the connections to the sender (sorry don't know where that is exactly).

It might be the radiator thermostat.....had same problem after getting a new radiator fitted.

Temp gauge would drop way down especially on the motorway. My Celica's an automatic so it stopped it going into overdrive when temp was too low.

Garage had fitted wrong thermostat, but yours could be broken or stuck. Hope this helps.
