Hi lads and lasses

following the succes of my last question on the forum I have another....

On my avensis TSpirit i have a squareish/oblong shaped sensor that has come loose

from next to the interior mirror mount any ideas what its for ?

its not the wipers i think because they are still working on auto

is the wiper sensor inside the interior mirror platic mounting

i can see like a circle on the windscreen from inside the interior mirror mount casing

what is the best way to refit the loose sensor originaly... fitted with black double sided tape

would autoglass help to refit the sensor...they must do them daily on different motors

Hi I had exactly the same problem with my T spirit , never found out what the sensor was for, I presumed it was a sensor for the outside temperature as the heater seemed to change over to screen by itself when I reattached it , the only thing I found that worked was Uh Hu Glue takes a couple of hours to go off so you have to jam something in between the mirror to keep it in place , but it stopped on till I sold the car recently .

Hi To all, my T-spirit is the same but only half off, Toyota told me to be very careful about what glue I used to stick it back but didn't say what to use:unsure:,they said it could damage the sensor but couldn't say what the sensor did:unsure:, so it stuck back with a little tape.

Regards Pete.

Hi, I'm pretty sure the sensor is the GPS antenna...may be wrong!

if you have auto wipers is the rain sensor. should clip in its not glued on (unless the metal bracket has come away)

no its not the rain sensor thats inside the interior mirror casing on the windscreen

this is a seperate sensor that was originally double sided taped to the screen

so i added a smigen of super glue to the d/sided tape to refix

So, you finally fixed it... while you still don't know what it is.

After 16 posts of guesswork, why don't you post a couple of pictures.

From inside and outside.

Maybe then someone can give a hint what it really is.

Is it not the GPS sensor? Thats what the D4D Avensis Manual says anyway!

If it's the same as my 02 model, it's the satnav GPS antenna.

Finally, got it! It’s the 'RDS antenna' according to Toyota, an FM antenna for RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel) or as Toyota calls it, ETA (Electronic Traffic Avoidance). It picks up traffic updates 24/7, which can be viewed in MENU > TRAFFIC INFO. The satnav uses the info as well for automatic or manual rerouting in order to avoid various traffic events. My Previa came with it in 2003 and has the TNS300ETA Radio/CD/Satnav. It was detached when the windscreen was replaced. So now it kinda just hangs there, but appears to work OK. The number of TMC messages received appears on the display next to the GPS satellite count. I presume the transparent strip of tape on the windscreen is part of it and the device's metal spring is supposed to be in contact with it.
