Rav4 Steering Rack Mounting Bushes

Hi

I`m a new member and was wondering if anybody out there has any information on suppliers of Rav4 D-4D steering rack mounting bushes. My rav4 has done 42000 miles and I have been told by the MOT mechanic that the bushes require replacement. I cannot detect any problem when driving the car (slack steering, vibration etc) and there is no tyre wear. My problen is that Toyota say that the mounting bushes do not wear out so are not available unless I buy a complete rack for £700 plus. Does anybody have the name of a supplier as Toyota Custome Relations are of no help whatsoever

Welcome to the club.

Ask our parts man - Parts King. He will say for sure what is available. It seems odd they have gone. They do move quite a bit normally.

Does your MOT man also do repairs perchance? Call me cynical, but...

Thanks for your reply dave-but no he does not do repairs. I know that on some vehicles they do have floating racks that move quite a bit but this did seem excessive

Many thanks for your help. Do you know how far they do move. I have heard of vehicles that have a type of floating arrangement and it had occurred to me that since off road vehicles have long suspension travel compared to road going cars that this might explain the movement. But this is of no avail to the MOT mechanics. I don`t know how much experience he has of 4 wheel drive vehicles but he did appear to go about the job pretty convincingly.
