1.8 Vvti Erratic Idle Speed

2009/58 1.8vvti with only 12K on the clock but with an erratic idle speed.

No OBD diagnostics light showing.

Driving from cold the engine is a bit rough - not an ideal situation in a queue of traffic.

Even when hot the engine's idle speed is variable - typically waving between 700 to 1200 rpm when at the traffic lights.

Mr T said there is nothing wrong.

Does that mean that rough idle is typical of Toyota 1.8 engines as like with their noisy brakes?

Any ideas?

hi mate

in case you have A/C as switched ON during an idle them it might criate variable of rpm. but in case of opposite then check with both MAF and sparks. Cheers/Igor

Lets be honest the car isn't running correctly. Idle speed should not see-saw up and down as such.

Assuming the car is still under warranty take it back and leave a letter of complaint or try another dealer. Obviously the current one is trying to fob you off.:)

... erratic idle speed.

Hi,

My 2010 T27 1.8L petrol runs at 1200 rpm when started and at 750 rpm flat within 2 minutes after that.

At 750 rpm it runs so smooth and quiet I can't even hear it.

Take it back and have it fixed.

P.S. Oh, yes, my brakes squeel a bit just before a full stop.

But that does seem to be normal.
