J D Power Survey 2010

Lexus has done it! For the 10th year in a row it has come top in the J.D. Power and Associates/What Car? 2010 UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study (VOSS) thanks to continuous and unsurpassed levels of service and satisfaction.

Brushing aside ever-more-competitive rivals, Lexus earns a massive customer satisfaction score of 846 on a 1000-point scale. Owners are particularly happy in three of the four key measures: vehicle quality and reliability, vehicle appeal and service satisfaction.

Jaguar shows the strongest year-on-year improvement and receives high ratings from owners in vehicle appeal and service satisfaction. The Jaguar XF also ranks highest in the executive/luxury car segment.

'It's a fantastic performance from Jaguar and great news for the brand,' said Steve Fowler, editor of What Car? 'It's also great to hear that the XF, which we made our Car of the Year in 2008, has gone on to please owners enough to make it the top car in its class.'

The 2010 UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study (VOSS) is based on the evaluations of more than 17,000 online interviews from UK car owners after an average of two years of ownership. The study was fielded in December 2009 and January 2010. Owners provide detailed evaluations of their vehicles and dealers, which cover 67 attributes grouped in four measurements of satisfaction. In order of importance, they are: vehicle appeal (37%), which includes performance, design, comfort and features; vehicle quality and reliability (24%); ownership costs (22%), which includes fuel consumption, insurance and costs of service/repair; and dealer service satisfaction (17%).

I would have thought that the Yaris would've been higher up. Nonetheless, it is quite high up :D

As with most statistics you can read them in many ways. There is only a 6.7% difference in the top 50 cars scores not a big gap. If you compare the Kia C'eed at number 4 with the BMW 5 series at number 37 are you really saying people believe that the C'eed is better for performance, design, comfort and features than the 5 Series? I can believe it wins for fuel consumption, insurance and costs of service/repair but then you would expect that.

And does the survey putting the Aygo and the Verso at number 31 mean that people buying these cars are looking for exactly the same thing in a car? These are very different vehicles it would be more interesting to see how the totals were arrived at and to put the same class of car together e.g. all MPV's, all city cars etc.

You can see that information, the different classes are down the left hand navigation in the link below

WHAT CAR JD POWER SURVEY

I only posted up the top hundred or so

This survey is an excellent indicator because it is the OWNERS view of the car and their dealer, it is their own experience driving the car day to day and it is not comparing make with make

Interestingly, Aygo at joint 31, Citroen at 90 and Peugeot at 99, all the same car! So the relationship of owner and dealer is very important

In the super mini class, Honda Jazz and Yaris were joint number 1

Kingo

It's a great result again.

1=: Toyota Yaris

Vehicle owner satisfaction score 83.1%

Overall ranking 7th=

Toyota may have hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons earlier this year, but there are certainly no problems reported with the Yaris. In fact, its score has improved since last year, which is why it now proudly shares top billing in this group and nestles safely in the top 10 overall.

Like the Jazz, the Yaris has a strong showing across the board, being rated as at least 'above average' in every aspect. What really impressed its owners, though, is how cheap it is to run. They loved its low fuel consumption and the low bills for insurance and servicing.

On top of that, owners also reported very few problems with the car's reliability or build quality – the interior came in for particular praise – and they said they loved the looks of their car. Last, but certainly not least, Toyota's dealers also got a slap on the back: their staff, work and service were all rated as excellent.
