94 Corolla Rear Drum Auto Adjuster

I replaced the drums and shoes but didn't tighten up the adjuster enough. I've seen conflicting answers as to how the automatic adjustment works.

1. Use the parking brake

2. Back up and apply the regular brakes.

3. Back up and apply the emergency brake

4. Back up and apply both brakes.

What's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

I really appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks.

I assumed the problem was the adjuster because I had a clicking noise in the rear. First I took off the drums and inspected the adjuster. It was right where it needed to be.

Found the fix on the internet. Pull off the drum, sanded down the shoes lightly, sprayed everything liberally with brake cleaner, and buttoned it all back up again. WORKED!
