Hi folks,

I have a Avensis 2.0 d4d 2004, its covered 131k miles and is in good order until recently. Sometimes it will start other times it wont. Battery is good, as is starter and Ive just replace all glow plugs. It could be there for a week and start no problem, then another day, not a chance, just keeps swinging over. It might start first thing in morning, knock it off, ten mins latter won`t start. Any ideas?

EGR?? What are or is scv`s seem them reffered to in some posts.

Thanks for any help.

Great Fourm.

A common problem is the starter motor but this is more apparent when engine is warm /hot ,SCV are suction control valves these are situated in the fuel pump and cut off fuel to the pump when stopping the engine ,these have been known to be a problem but the car feels like it holds back, more so than not starting, these can be removed from the pump inplace. When the car does'nt start next time see if the plunger on top of the fuel filter is hard and primed maybe the fuel is returning,if it is soft prime till hard and see if the startability has improved.Hope this helps

Car would not start again this morning, plunger was hard and primed. This would suggest that fuel delivery is alright? The car will always start with a tow. Now on the engine theres a solenoid with 3 small air pipes on it, (standing at front of car its located on the RHS, its mounted off the head, beside the main pipe from the intercooler pipe, with two small pipes going to the intercooler pipe, 3 outlet from solenoid is blanked) when the ignition is switched on, this makes a weak whining noise, could this be anything to do with the problem?

All help greatly appreciated.
