Corolla Gti Exhaust

Hi all,

What exhaust would you guys recommend for a Corolla GTi? I am looking for twin pipe and something that has a nice roar to it without being irritating on long drives and drawing unnecessary attention to myself.

Does anybody actually have a second hand SS exhaust that I could work on with some elbow grease? With the inevitable re-spray ahead funds are currently quite tight!

Cheers,

Richard

Hello mate, the most common SS exhaust systems for ure GTi are the mongoose and scorpion kits, I know the mongoose is discontinued and I wouldnt be surprised if the scorpion is too! Try searching the usual suspects, eBay, pistonheads and so on as they do pop up every now and then as there was a scorpion system on eBay last month! Otherwise im sure KP will let u know where to get the ashley system from and you can also have a listen to it on his ae92 build thread, not sure if its s/steel though?!

Good luck!

How much did you pay for your system KP?

I paid £200, but I think that was in a sale.

Here is where I got it:Europerformance.co.uk

It's now more expensive but trust me it will be worth the sound!! ;)

Look at my build thread, it will tell you what size U-Bolts you will need, page two I think. :D

Stowie, it is bassy until about 4000 RPM and then the engine takes over and it is bearable, it really is a great system.

Thats a good price for the scorpion system, I paid £170 inc delivery about 9 months ago and Im very

happy with it! I was chasing down the mongoose system for ages thinking it was the holy grail of

exhausts for our GTi's but I cant see how the two can be much different to be honest!

But yeah once again Im gonna say that your best chance is just searching until youre happy!

Yeah i was very happy wit the price. I haven't gotten delivery of the exhuast yet, when i do i will be getting my trusty buffer out and give it a going over. is there a nice sound out of it?? and have u noticed any power differences over standard?? like a powerband or anything??

Looks like I am going to have to hunt one down then! There is a company not far from me that specialise in custom exhausts so I guess if there is no successful outcome from my search I will be going for the Ashley system like KP or a custom build.

I remember looking at the Mongoose ones on the Fensport website when I had my old GTi, presume they are like gold-dust now?!

They are like gold-dust but the scorpion system is also pretty rare to be honest!

Very good system though with a great sound, louder but not too loud as alot of universal systems are,

My car was off the road for a while and then I got a closer garage and started sorting her out, bodywork, exhaust system and general servicing but while it was off the road I blew the head-gasket from constant idleing! :censor:

So I cant tell you how its effected my car yet but already chuffed with the sound and look though!

From friends cars back home though Ive seen good gains and it is very worth while, it will strengthen up the power-bands that you should already have at 3K/rpm and 5K/rpm!

The bracket on my down-pipe didnt match the one on the middle section though and some custom work was needed, aslong as its

done properly you shouldnt have any problems!

Look forward to some pics when ure done!

Same with the Ashley.

The Down-Pipe/Centre Section needs the downpipe male end to be skimmed down and the inside of the Ashley end skimmed too. It takes about 10 minutes to grind it down, really easy.

The Ashley Box fits directly with ease, it's such a good sound, the videos don't really give you a great idea, honestly I am so pleased with it!

Still, your choice, the Mongoose ceased production years ago, Fensport still advertised it despite not having it any more. ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Have spent the last few weeks checking eBay every day for an exhaust but had no luck! Have even emailed all people advertising Corollas that are being broken.

So... KP - Looks like I might be going for that Ashley system :)
