Advice Needed Please

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if they have experienced the oil pump failing on a corolla 1.6 VVTi (2003). The car showed the oil warning light flashing whilst driving it on the motorway. Unfortunately this was due to the oil pump failing (advised by the AA patrolman) and the car coming to a stop on the hard shoulder. We had to have the car transported back home and now i need to get it checked out by a garage. They engine has seized and my question is.... has anyone suffered this before and if so will we require a new engine, or can the engine be repaired? I would imagine the crankshaft bearings have gone, the engine temp gauge did not rise above halfway on the gauge before it halted so i am presuming all the heat in the engine was occuring at the bottom end. ANY HELP OR ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED, we just want to know if this oil pump failure would result in terminal damage to the engine??

I'd strongly advise you to just get a new engine.

If it's seized you've most likely got warping on the block and head.

Sorry, but I have never heard of this on Toyota's... :(

I blew my engine a few months ago.

Oil light kept popping on and engine was making a cluncking sort of sound before it finally gave up.

Could of been a few things, but not sure

Here's a pic of my beloved engine of only 73K miles before it got trundled away

this exact senario happened to me yesterday 24/2/11 what was the outcome did you req new engine? cheers butty

You depending on how hot it got and how much cash you have to buy in new parts, I reckon you would be better off getting a second hand engine. :thumbsup:

agreed, knowing how much hte parts are for toyota engines (block/bottom end) it would be more economical to get a second hand unit.

has it been inspected thoroughly yet? or are you currently just going off the AA mans diagnosis and hte fact the engine wont crank? if so, might be worth just getting a propper eye over it, looking at man bings engine hole....there may well be something equally catastrophic going on under your bonnet too, which would essentially make the decision for you.

Agree with what other people have been saying. While it may be perfectly possible to repair there's always going to be the cost issue. Dropping in a new engine is far less troublesome, costly and time consuming than taking one out and stripping it.

Doesn't mean you shouldnt give it a good look over though, there's never a set rule to these things and you might be a jammy ***** and get lucky. Or, like me, you just might like to have a tinker about anyway...

I had a BMW 318ti sieze up on me due to an oil feed blockage and thought I was properly knackered. It a fairly well worn in car (around 140k) and had served a good life so I decided to just ubik around with it instead... Gave it a go and just with a good engine flush, new pistons, rods, bearings, shells, rings and a nice rebore (was actually a 319ti :yahoo: ) she lived again and went on to do another 100k miles! Granted, could have probably got another engine for that but what the hell. Tis not as fun issit :yes:

well got the dreaded bad news today engine is terminal case.phoned some recon engine specialists and have been quoted between 1400 and 1600 plus vat . i live in wolverhampton does any body know of a mechanic / company who might do a more economical repair .

You could spend and awful lot less on getting a second hand engine and box... plus if you do the swap yourself (pretty easy if you have some experience) then you save on those labour charges too.
