Compressor Oil - What Can Go Wrong!

Hi guys! Bought my compressor 4 weeks ago and I absolutely adore the car, well that is until last Friday when driving home from work I heard a clonking noise from the engine. As you do I pulled over and lifted the bonnet looking to see where the clonking noise was coming from, it appeared the noise was coming from the supercharger. So at this point I decided to gentle drive it to the nearest Toyota garage (which was down the road) where it had diagnostic tests done which came back confirming my worst nightmare......yes the compressor is knackered, this was due to the compressor running dry!!! The garage I bought it from did not check the compressor oil as I asked; thankfully the car is still under warranty so I don’t have to pay a bill of £3500 for a brand new one. Hopefully I’ll be back on the road next Wednesday when the car is ready and will try to find out when the oil should be checked. Also whilst talking to Toyota they did “say” that some have come from the factory half full. So for you guys out there who drive a compressor it might be best to check the oil. Hope this is of some use.

it was the one thing i was worried about when buying my comp. Unfortunately i didnt notice any tell tales signs, it kind of justed happened but im guessing it was already on its way out when i bought it, but there was no unusual sound when i was looking it over! im just lucky it happened whilst im in my warranty period. The only suggestion i can give you is to get toyota to check the oil sooner than later. As far as im aware of it should only be a half hour job because they have to take off some piping to get to the dipstick.

Yeh man, someone else on here has had the same thing, and was covered by warranty. I got warranty with my car, but i don't know if Supercharger is included? Think my oil is ok, but i am getting it checked in couple of thousand miles when it gets a full service. Going to order the oil from ogura at some point too.

Toyota DO NOT check supercharger oil at any service, it is a seperate job. Best plan is to get them to get the oil first [ will cost you nothing]. It can take up to 10 days as it comes from Belguim, then if you need some they got it, why pay to have it checked then again to be topped up!

Got mine done at 44K, there was a little left.Next check at 60K.

my car is a 2006 with only 32k and this happened. As far as i am aware of the warranty only covers certain parts in the supercharger unit, so if the pulleys and clutch goes your not covered but it would be best to check the warranty to see what it does actaully cover!

I have checked my oil and its not even showing on the dipstick, trying to find some oil was hard only one company do it (kluber lubricants). i rang them and you can buy it in 5 litre containers for about £125, i only need under a litre so i have bought 1 litre which is £25ish + £30 handeling fee + £11 p&p, so it has cost around £65 for 1 litre of oil :ffs: i will get the number of the company tomorow because i left it in work.

infact i found the instructions to check the oil level, and am i right in thinking that you can simply top the oil up via the dipstick hole?

Any of you guys have any problems with the gasket when you removed the intake side of the supercharger to get to the dipstick - do you have to replace it or do you just put the old one back? If you have to replace it do toyota supply them?

Didnt have a problem with mine, im not going to replace it unless it brakes when i take it off. Im sure toyota will have them but will probably have to order them in.

I rang Toyota today and they came back to me with "it's a specialist matter" the up shot is they have emailed head office to find out what they can do and I'm now waiting on a response for the oil and gasket.

Be similar to what i was told;

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are able to supply this as a special package from our production plant, otherwise the standard package is 5 litres.

It was offered as a service part to Toyota UK, but as there are only 200 of these cars existing, it was not adopted into their system as it would require repackaging into service packs. As a result, we have to charge an admin fee to cover the cost of special repackaging and carriage into the UK.

We offer as follows:

1 litre Klubersynth GH6-80 ? 54.70

excl Carriage & VAT.

Lead time 7-10 days.

Please contact sales@uk.klueber.com to place your order.
