Hi,

My car was in for a service today at a specialist and he advised me to get shot of my SR180 as soon as the warranty is up.

He informed me that the 2.2 engine has a major issue with head gaskets blowing and bottom end issues.

Has this happened to anyone on here ?

Thanks

Andy

Okay, decision time..

Car has done 25k and will be 3 years old in April this year.

No real problems other the the MPG is bad and the sunroof has started to stick a little, due to the bad winter no doubt.

Anyway has anyone else has the head gasket go on their T180/SR180 sine I last posted, if so can you advise me on the year and mileage of the car please. I am trying to work out if I should keep it and take the risk or get shot before the warannty is up.

Cheers

Andy

Dont worry. Toyota have extended the warranty on the head gasket to 100k. Lots of threads on here about it.

We had T180 3 years and 5 months old 41k on the clock and all fine apart from MPG, did notice over the last month or so that I kept getting smoke and loads of it for around 2-3minutes every so often (suspect DPF burn) but strange how in 2 years I have never noticed this but checked water levels and oil and everything fine.

I asked our local dealer about this and he said he had seen 3 2.2 180 engines with head gasket problems but never 1 in a Auris.

Get the car into Toyota asap for the sunroof, mine started to click, then it started to catch on the edge of the roof, shortly after it stopped working. Toyota replaced it under warranty at £530+vat.

Thanks for the update chaps, will have to take it in this week for the sunroof, it doesn't tilt as high as it used to and won't close from

tilted position, so have to open it fully, as it starts to move back there is a thud so think it is actually catching the roof as it starts to slid back..

Other thing to look for, when i first took the car to toyota about the sunroof they overloaded the thring with grease to try to make it work. this then made its way up onto the weather strip and when the weather went really cold and had all the snow the grease thickened up and acted like a glue making it much worse.

you also may want to consider Toyota's extended warranty.

given your annual mileage a 2 year warranty would be £615 incl 2 years of Club Toyota (breakdown cover)

Plus having a £60 fee for each time they look for the problem. If i was on extended warranty now and Id been charged for each time they have looked at something I'd be out of pocket £480

the fee is refundable & of course in most cases it's fairly obvious what the problem is.
