Flashing O/d Light

Hi, I am new here.

I was just wondering, if anyone knows what causes the OverDrive light on the dash to flash?

It has only just started doing it after a long run on the motorway. It starts flashing after about 5 minutes after starting off in the morning. Fluid levels seem OK, and so are the gear changes. Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Having exactly same problem with mine!

Seems to be engine coolant orientated. When correct level of coolant is in system, everything is ok. As soon as coolant level/mixture gets too weak/low the problem occurs again.

Kept an eye on mine for a few weeks now and everything seems ok.

Hope this helps

It means get your gearbox electronics (you should have an ECT gearbox) checked (or electrical fault as Kierens case seems to be), thats what it says in my manual, I'll give you the exact wording later when i get home. I take it by fluid levels you mean 'Gearbox oil'?

sorry all i though we were on about cruise control!!

Ah yes, Koenig might be but Overdrive to me means auto transmission unless it's linked in with CC somehow (which I havn't got!!) :)

No, it is definately the auto transmission overdrive, it is an ECT model. I have no CC on my car.

OK our cars are not the same but the gearbox is. My manual says "If the 'o/d off' Light flashes on and off while the o/d button is switched on, then there is a problem with the system, see your Toyota specialist as soon as possible". That is virtually word for word. Hope it's not serious.

Thanks for that Jimma!

When I said "fluids/coolant", I actually meant anti-freeze and rad water.

Had gearbox checked out (ECT model) and told everything was fine.

Still having no probs with coolant levels (engine) being checked on.

Does gearbox get cooled by engine cooling system as well as its own gearbox oil?

Got to the bottom of problem, speedo cable perished, causing O/D OFF light to flash. New speedo cable, no more flashing!
