Hi,

Went for a drive today, on the way back home check engine light came on. ESC went off, then lost all power (like the turbo is off)

Anyone know what the fault could be as I said I only purchased the car second hand through a toyota dealer on friday.

I think their is a 30 day exchange program, does anyone think on the above problem I should be looking at exchanging not fixing?

Unlucky newt180 and the problem could be anything but sounds serious, give them a chance to at least diagnose what the problem is, if you are not satisfied at all with the answer then demand a refund/exchange and make use of this no quibble policy. Because after 30 days things will get a lot tougher and you wouldn't want to be left with a problematic car after this point.

Good luck.

new cat and pipes???

If they do that I may keep it, if not I think it may have to be the refund or exchange root. Last thing I want is the problem cleared for the month and then coming back.

Those are the typical symptoms of the EGR being blocked.

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106241

Cant see any mention of complete loss of power, (I mean no power no turbo at all 40mph a struggle) And VSC light light going on a a symptom of a blocked EGR.

I thought it was but this seem fairly serious. it is exactly the same as the link I posted, not loss of power below turbo, full warning lights and limp mode.

When you stop for a bit it will let you have the turbo for about 1 mile.

Plus I asked the dealers to check the EGR when I picked it up (after reading on here)They said they have done it. If it turns out to be that they will be having it back anyway.

The air con stinks and white powder is flying out (fungus I presume) so if they cant do basic maintainence some of which I have requested it does not bode well for the dealer TBH.

But I think VSC turning off, means it is more than just a blocked EGR I think / presume as I cant see anyone else having that as a symptom.

Just to add, any one know what the white powder coming out of the Air con could be, saw some refrance to it on BMW's and it was the heat exchanger corrding. So blowing in aluminim oxide, really hope it is not that as I have had my young son in the car twice and have read the stuff can be nasty?

Hope it is different on the auris. Anyone who can reassure me would be a great help.

Hi,

I have bought my Auris (second hand) few months ago and I had the same issue. The dealer "could not" find a problem so I took the car to independent A/C specialist and was told it needs new evaporator as the dust is Aluminium oxide. The guy told me they've seen few Toyotas in past few months with the same issue but mainly Avensis.

I think My brief toyota ownership is at an end. P2002 diagnosed just glad it happend so early on, think I am going for a refund rather than exchange otherwise I will always be wondering when it will happen again. :(

I bought my car only few months ago but I am already sick and tired of it. It is one failure after another and I have to use public transport or my wife's car all the time. I wish I had read some of the reviews before.
